Disputed Doctrines
by Becky Melendez
But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings
about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate
strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all,
able to teach, patient.
II Timothy 2:23-24
Loving God and each other is what matters most. He who does not love
does not know God, for God is love.
I John 4:8
Watch out if you or the person you disagree with display any of the
following traits….. But know this, that in the last days perilous
times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money,
boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanders, without self-control, brutal,
despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure
rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its
power. And from such people turn away!
II Timothy 3:1-5
It’s O. K. to talk about what you believe and why you believe it. But
it’s not O. K. to fight or argue when you disagree with someone. God
wants us to show love to each other. When we become hateful, we ruin our
witness for the Lord.
Following are just a few of the positions that have divided people in
the body of Christ:
-
It’s O. K. for divorced people to remarry. / It’s not O. K.
-
God gets glory from us being in poverty. / God wants us to be wealthy.
-
Healing is not for us today. / It is for us today.
-
Women should not preach or teach in the church. / They can preach and
teach in church.
-
Once you are saved you are always saved. / You can lose your salvation
by sinning.
-
It’s good to play instruments in church when praising the Lord. / There
were no instruments mentioned in the New Testament so we shouldn’t play
instruments today.
-
There will be a rapture. It will be pre-trib?, mid-trib?, or post- trib?.
/ There won’t be a rapture the word is not even found in the Bible.
How you believe about these subjects has nothing to do with your
salvation. Romans 10:9-10 says: That if you confess with your
mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him
from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto
righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Verse 13 says: For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall
be saved.
