Fresh Catch
Dear Loved Ones,
If you smell fish, it’s because of the back cover of our recent newsletter. If you really smell fish, you must have a very vivid imagination. We took that photo and the one to your right at La Manga, one of our favorite eating places on the southwest coast of Sonora. It’s a great place to be reminded of the ministry of our Lord Jesus, because like Him they always have a multitude of fresh catch ready to serve.
We find fish at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry in Luke 5 where He begins choosing His disciples. Just before Peter and his crew of fisherman put their fishing industry on hold to follow Jesus, He multiplies their last catch to the point of nearly sinking two boats with the overload catch. It appears that Jesus makes it His habit to multiply fish. In Matthew 14:25 He multiplies two fish to such abundance that 5,000 people had fish for lunch. Then in Matthew 15 it’s recorded that He multiplied just a few fish to feed 4,000. In both events there were more fish left over than when they started serving.
Jesus didn’t limit His usage of fish to just physical nourishment. He also used a fish in Matthew 12:27 to miraculously supply the money for a temple tax. Even though He had a divine right to be tax free, he paid the tax to avoid offense to those who did not yet understand His right to freedom.
My favorite account of Jesus’ attraction to fish is in Luke 24:36-43 where Jesus includes a fish in His last recorded earthly meal. Eating a fish was part of the proof that He was actually alive and risen from the dead.
Just for the sake of a bigger fish story, let’s back up in history about 750 years to the fish God used to straighten out Jonah’s rebellious attitude. This has to be one of God’s most extraordinarily uses of the humble fish.
Fast forward to Luke 5:1-11… In verse 9, I see Peter and the boys shaking in their rubber boots. (I know, I know, no rubber boots, but just let me finish my fish story.) It’s clear that they were severely taken back by the terrific supernatural miracles they had just witnessed. Jesus sets the scene in order and brings meaning to His purpose with His words in verse 19; do not be afraid, from now on you will catch men. Matthew, in 4:19 remembers the words as Follow me and I will make you fishers of men: different wording - same message. The twofold message being, if I can miraculously supply your secular needs, it should be obvious I will take care of your needs in a life of ministry. Just follow me and I’ll see that you catch as many men as you did fish.
As Christians we should take time to recognize all the miraculous things the Lord does in our lives. He provides for us, teaches us His ways, supplies our special needs, and of course, His constant presence proving how alive He really is.
Your prayers and continuing generosity greatly encourage us here to stay the course, keep our nets out, and catch men for his glorious Kingdom.
In His Waters,
Calvin and Barbara

Still feeding the multitudes.
His Truth in Marching On
Two months ago, we reported about Guamuchil, where two years ago the people were starving because their only crop, marijuana had been burned out. Bob and Miki and their El Shaddai team went in with food and God’s Word. Today people from every household have received the Lord and they are prospering and growing food crops. We’ve just received news that the new Christians are now evangelizing in two towns near them. Hallelujah!
Alta Gracia Barron and Felipe and Carmen Vásquez have taken the VBS program into Guamuchil for two years now. They have had lots of children and adults in attendance. Praise the Lord!
From the Mailbag:
I wanted to tell you how much we enjoy the DVD’s you have sent us in the past. We use them during the offering time and they just melt our hearts to see all those precious faces. How we marvel at the fruit of your labors there and pray for every blessing upon your family and upon the families to whom you minister. M.F. Bowling Green, KY
It is always fulfilling and encouraging when I hear from you. I need to read between the lines, and find the precious gold that your words carry. The good news from far away lands is like a big fat cloud filled with rainwater eager to pour down over us. We miss you and worst of all we need you. J.C. Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Facundo and Adalita Yocipicia are a couple who has been a part of Bob and Miki’s El Shaddai team in Navojoa for many years and were ordained at FMI’s reunion in July.
After the Reunion they went home and took Vacation Bible School to Guirocoba, the remote pueblo where Adalita was raised. This is the third year they’ve done a VBS there. It was during the raining season so they had to cross running washes and travel on rough, muddy roads. They did their classes along the muddy river bank. The children didn’t mind at all. They were delighted and soaked up God’s Word with hungry hearts.
Guirocoba doesn’t have a church yet, but the seed for one is being sown in these precious children.
