Win a Child for Jesus
Dear Friend,
Have you ever wondered why there are so many photos and reports of children’s activities in our letters? I have. It’s certainly not because Barbara or I have that special magnetic, charisma that draws and captivates the hearts of children. However, the Lord has surrounded us with many able ministers whom are blessed with the anointing and talent to do so.
When we began our mission to Mexico in 1985 under the discipleship of Pastor Jose Luis De la Torre, our vision was to build his edifice. Immediately we found ourselves surrounded by a multitude of children. Of the 80 people at his groundbreaking for the new building, 60 were children. As the project continued, we were soon helping José with children’s activities numbering 2 to 3 thousand.
As the Lord extended our outreach into new areas, it seemed we were always helping some pastor with multitudes of children. One pastor jokingly said, “Children are Mexico’s Gross National Product”.
The reality in that thought gives us some insight into why the devil puts so much energy in the proliferation of his drug business. He knows if he can entrap the young, he’ll have the nation. In nations where children are abundant, we find drugs and false religion as the bait used to enslave children.
These two things result in such control of a child they are willing to kill to support their training. Here on the border our law enforcement agents are catching more and more 10 and 12 year olds trying to bring drugs across the international line.
The drug cartel in Chihuahua is soliciting junior high age children to train as their hit men. The appetite for recreational drugs in the U.S. demands the lives of these children.
King Jesus knows the importance of capturing a child’s heart. In Luke 18:16 MKJV But Jesus called them and said, Allow the little children to come to Me, and forbid them not. For of such is the kingdom of God. And in Matthew 18:5-6 NLJ Whoever receives one little child like this in my name receives Me. But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung about his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
With children being so significant to Jesus, it would seem that our logical move should be to gather as many little ones as we can and teach them about Him and His Eternal Kingdom. Here they can find safety, comfort, joy, and a better life all around.
Oh, I know ministering to children can be challenging and there’s a rebellious BRAT in every crowd. I’m reminded of a luncheon we attended in Tucson where I felt a firm hand on my back. When I turned, I was face to face with one of my early teachers from years past. She pointed her finger in my face and said, “Now, I remember you. You're that little tornado that used to run all over the church.” By her comparison of then and now, I read her hidden compliment.
Only God knows the future of a child. Our job is to patiently love them and teach them by God’s Word and a good example.
So, are we a children’s ministry? Well, it’s certainly a strong branch of our ministry tree. We didn’t plan it this way, but it’s where we find ourselves much of the time, so let’s get enthused about it and win a child for Jesus.
Faith Ministries does not exist apart from your prayer and support.
Embracing the Vision,
Calvin and Barbara

In June, Bob graduated 27 students in Tesia, Sonora. That makes a total of 380 that have graduated from El Shaddai.
In the fall there will be El Shaddai’s starting in Navojoa, Sonora, Los Moches, Sinaloa, and Chihuahua, Chihuahua. Hallelujah!

Vacation Bible School in Mexico
In Mexico, our Vacation Bible Schools are what we sometimes refer to as icebreakers, wall removers, or heart softeners. Even though many of our churches are in communities that are predominately Catholic, our VBS’s are designed to be non-threatening. We find common ground where the message of our mutual Savior becomes a very positive, life changing, community developing blessing to families of all faiths.
Our present level of VBS material purchase costs Faith Ministries approx. $2,000.00. The Mexican pastors and staff bear the cost of food, transportation, handcrafts, and church expense in general.
We are helping to produce children that make Mexico the wonderful, hospitable nation it has always been. These kids will not be in the bad news you hear on TV about the drug wars.
We’re changing lives and your continuing faithful support makes all the difference in how many we reach. In this work $$$ = little souls. |

In the New Testament, we see where the Apostle Paul supplemented his income by making tents. In the smaller pueblos and pioneer churches there is often not enough money to support the pastors. While some pastors work, many times there’s no work available, so Bob has come up with ideas to help the pastors make a living that supply service to the local community.
He has promoted several projects by putting in water purification in towns that need purified water, so that it is a blessing to the town and to the pastor.
In Villa Hidalgo, Pastor Manuel Martinez wanted a welding shop, as he is a welder by trade. We met Bob and his El Shaddai team there to help with this project. We took in a new donated welder and many other tools that will bless his new business. A special thank you to Kona Faith Center in HA and a special family from TN for helping with this project. |
